Tonkatsu by Ma Maison, Publika, Kuala Lumpur

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison open their second outlet in our neighborhood! Just like their first outlet in One Utama, Isetan Food Paradise, there is always a queue especially during meal hours ! We manage to avoid the crowds since we were here for later lunch half past three in the afternoon.

The Menu
Their menu seems worn out in fact this Publika branch has open merely one year. You may also visit their website for updated menu & pricing:

Their 5 in house policies which written in Japanese word. It is translated into English on the first page of their menu as following:
  1. Meat is freshly selected and AGED
  2. Meat is coated with light crispy BREADCRUMBS and fried.
  3. Using NATURAL SALT which is rich with natural minerals mined from deep mountain range.
  4. Only light taste vegetable (corn) OIL are used for frying which is palatable.
  5. High grade JAPANESE base rice grown in rich and well soil is used.
Followed by different types of Katsu available~ starting from Rosu Katsu - which is Pork Loin.

Hire Katsu - Pork Fillet & Miso Katsu - Deep-fried pork cutlets doused with a topping sauce.

Jumbo Ebifurai - Deep Fried Jumbo Prawn

Kakifurai - Deep-fried Oyster & Iroiro Katsu - Assorted Katsu

Iroiro Katsu - Assorted Katsu

And, the latest combination set menu, I not sure why it is so crumble. Anyway, I chose the Buta Katsu Set from this menu.

Apparently, all Pork loins at Ma Maison are aged (or matured) in a special chiller for days for better flavor, the aging process is important as it can made the meat tender.

And for those who visit the restaurant for the first time (like us), there's a guideline on every table to teach us the proper way to enjoy the Tonkatsu.

The Condiments
These condiments play important roles in adding extra flavor for the meal. Each meal comes with a condiment plate with 3 compartment for 3 flavors which are Grind Rock Salt, Spicy Tonkatsu sauce and Sweet Tonkatsu sauce. We end up enjoy our Tonkatsu with 3 different flavor but not just stick to one. Row behind from left to right are Roasted Sesame Dressing (for the shredded cabbage), Tamari Sauce (for appetizer - Daikon puree), white sesame seeds and toothpicks.

Mamento Set @ RM35.90
Husband's choose one of their top seller menu. It consists of deep fried prawn, pork loin & pork fillet. The Mamento set also comes with Nyumen - thin noodles in hot soup which can be finish in one slurp.

I like the ball size Oroshi (daikon puree) which served as an appetizer. Best eaten with some Tamari sauce (soy based sauce). The puree radish has digestive enzymes which can helps to digest food especially oily or fried foods.

 Buta Katsu Set @ RM28.90
I choose the fried pork loin and pork fillet! Similar with husband's order but without jumbo prawn and nyumen. All the set menu comes with rice, shredded cabbage, tonjiru (miso soup with pork) and pickles, all refillable except pickles. We both had multi-grain rice from the choice of plain steamed rice or multi grain rice.

Their Tonjiru specially cooked in Nagoya style is really appetizing! Tonjiru (豚汁), literally meaning “pork (ton) soup (jiru)”-  Japanese soup made with pork and vegetables, flavoured with miso.

Japanese roasted barley tea is served, however I choose to had root beer float as I was thirsty before arrive. It does somehow relief my thirst and but husband who never had root beer before not so fancy of the taste. haha!

Lastly we were served with a complimentary dessert - Jelly! I can't guess what flavor it is ..should have ask the staff what is it .. Its not sweet and just nice to be a bite size dessert after had deep fried food for meal. Overall, the total bill cost us RM83.60 for 2 pax, but I would say it is worth for it's value.
