Jeju, Seogwipo, Yetnal Yetjeok Restaurant | 옛날옛적

Our second destination in Jeju is Seongsan Ilchulbong which also listed as Unesco World Heritage. Before we go to Seongsan Ilchulbong, we went to one of the Mat-jib (famous eatery) nearby Seongsan Ilchulbong for lunch.

The restaurant name is Yetnal Yetjeok (옛날옛적) means Once Upon a Time. It is one of the famous Mat-jib in Seogwipo, Jeju that serve old-school Korean food. The main menu is their signature dish: Dom-bae gogi with choice of seafood stew, kimchi jiggae, braised hair-tail fish or grilled red tile fish (choose one) at 30,000 won (for 2 servings). They also have full course meal for Braised Jeju Hair-tail Jeongsik (30,000 won), Seafood Jungol (30,000 won) and Kimchi Jungol(25,000 won)

The restaurant building same like it's name 옛날옛적 - still preserve the old time Korean house structure with traditional urns that use to store a variety of fermented and fermenting foods outside at one of the corner in front.

My family & in-laws family - except my youngest brother in law who is not able to follow us to Jeju.

Our lunch - Dom-bae Gogi (돔베고기) - boiled pork belly served on a wooden cutting board; similar to Bossam and Suyuk. The boiled pork meat is Jeju black pig meat. Beside the normal wrap with greens, the boiled pork can be also consume with kelp (다시마) or white kimchi (백김치), with 2 dipping sauce available - Ssamjang (Fermented soybean paste mixed with red pepper paste &other seasonings) and Jarijeot (a pungent, fermented fish sauce for old-school diners).

We also have kimchi jiggae and roasted red tilefish (옥돔구이) with refillable banchans! Just the banchan itself it is delicious and enough to fill our tummy! Click HERE to read one of the Korean blog which has introduce the restaurant with more pictures of the food.

Standing in front of the restaurant, we can see Seongsan Ilchulbong which is not far from the restaurant!

Next door some construction is going on. Looks like they are building a hotel.
