Coliseum Cafe, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur

Found this Old Western Hainanese Restaurant (in a heritage building) selling the local Malaysian style western food while searching for Malaysian-style chicken chop online. Lately I keep recall those memories of Husband and I used to had local western food for dinner at least 2-3 times a week when we lived in Penang. Can't believe it's been 4 years since our last visit our usual place at Mount Erskine Hainan Western Food (located next to a Chinese temple) and James Foo Western Food @ Fettes Park!

Although Coliseum cafe has a branch in Midvalley which is more nearer to our place, we decide to go to their main branch in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman for it's heritage feel. For your info, parking lots is not available along Jalan TAR, so we need to park our car at a paid carpark situated behind Jalan TAR not far from the restaurant. Located next to the Coliseum Theater, with a alley in between, the cafe is spotted immediately with it's old school outlook by us.

Walk into the cafe, the interior give us a very nostalgia feeling too, just like one of those heritage restaurant in Penang. We were seated at the back of the restaurant since the front part (which looks like a bar) is full house. Surprisingly alot of the customers are expatriates beside locals. Also, we could tell most of the staff here (from Kitchen staffs to waiters) has been work here for decades. Yeah, most of them are uncles and aunties speaking in Cantonese accents, seems like they are already at their retirement age but still very fit and efficient at work.

Back to restaurant I found ~ Coliseum Cafe & Grill Room. Established in 1921, this 93 years old restaurant that still remain it's British Colonial time interior received an award for being the Longest Operating Western Colonial-Themed Restaurant from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) last year. You can found out what are the other awards they received from their website. Coliseum official website provide complete information including the restaurant interior and full menu. So there is not necessary for us to take photos except for the food we order.

Hainanese Chicken Chop
The Hainanse chicken chop meat is tenderly & juicily inside the crispy skin, plus the sweet and sour Hainanse sauce or gravy pour on top of the dish, the taste just same as the old school taste that I am looking for.

Baked Crabmeat
The dish looks so small when it arrived at our table. It's stuffed baked crabmeat inside this crunchy crumbed top crab shell. The baked crabmeat is delicious, you will need to eat together with mayonnaise sauce else it will be a bit dry. I hope this small serving of baked crabmeat is enough to fill my husband's stomach. haha!

Banana and Chocolate Spring Rolls with Vanilla Ice-cream
I am glad we order the right dessert! The spring roll that filled with banana inside and some chocolate sauce on top is still hot while it served, Eat it together with the cold vanilla ice cream, perfectly make my stomach happy!

After dinner, we walked over to SOGO for some window shopping. End up bought 2 official world cup tee for Germany before head home for the World Cup 2014 Final - Germany vs. Argentina match! Germany win anyway! Congratulations!
