[UPDATE] DAE BOK JANG / DAE JANG GUEM KOREAN RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED DOWN ON DECEMBER 2014.
Husband & I always go to Dae Bok Jang / Dae Jang Gum whenever we craving for Jajjangmyeon. We also often dine in here whenever there is a gathering with friends and family. It is one of our most frequent dine-in restaurant when we still reside in Shah Alam and we continue to visit them after we moved down to KL too.
On one fine Sunday noon Jo came visit me at Mont' Kiara. She just moved down to KL recently and this is our first meet-up in KL. I decided to buy her a meal at Dae Bok Jang / Dae Jang Gum as an early birthday celebration for her upcoming birthday!
Jajjangmyeon @ RM18.00
It's Jo's first time eat Jajjangmyeon - a Korean Chinese noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang, diced pork and vegetables. Yes, Dae Bok Jang is a Korean Chinese Restaurant selling Korean Chinese dish, while Dae Jang Gum is a Korean BBQ Restaurant, both under the same owner and the restaurant is linked - That is why the restaurant has 2 names.
If you order Jajjangmyeon only, they won't serve you side dish like this. Jajjangmyeon only served with radish pickles, onion slices and chunjang (black bean paste). You can dip the pickled or onion slices with or without chunjang before put into your mouth. Or eat the radish pickles together with jajjangmyeon - that's how Korean eat Jajjangmyeon.
The reason why we have side dishes (banchan) is because we order Sundubu Jjigae @ RM20.00. Jo loves Sundubu jigae (Korean soft tofu stew) so it is a must-try dish. It served with white rice but we didn't took the rice as a bowl of Jajjangmyeon is enough to make our stomach full! We should have just share 1 jajjangmyeon and 1 sundubu jiggae lol. The owner of the restaurant serve us green tea as service (complimentary dish / drinks as appreciation when you order up to certain amount).
Can't believe we manage to finish everything including the Sundubu Jjigae! I'm glad Jo like the meal. Hopefully we will have meal like this sometimes again in the future. Happy Pig-day Jo :D
